As an artist living on the north west coast of Scotland, I am passionate about coastal ecology. I am fascinated and inspired by a tiny little-seen seaweed that lives on the seabed near my studio, that on mass provide shelter for hundreds of different marine organisms, creating vital biodiverse habitats. I am outraged that the maerl beds near me are under threat, from illegal seafloor dredging , salmon farms, and climate change. I want to help protect maerl and the life it shelters.
